McCall's M6035

I wasn't sure if I would really like this shirt once it was made up, thinking it may be too girly looking, but I love it. The pictures don't do it justice, I took them in a very slapdash way on the spur of the moment. But I wore it properly on Saturday, with a dark grey pair of Gap cords and suede mustard shoes and, importantly the shirt was tucked in, and I don't mind saying: it looked fabulous!

McCall's M6035

This shirt was so easy and quick to make, especially when you consider that I had never even made a shirt before. I was a little worried about the buttonholes going wrong but decided to approach with a rather gung-ho attitude, which is why I did them in red cotton. I thought they would work out...or else! I do like the detail of the red cotton along the button band and round the buttonholes, and my little blue heart-shaped buttons please me.

I would make this shirt again but next time I'd pay attention to the fact that my right arm has a thicker girth than my left, and adjust the cuff to reflect this. Whilst it's not too tight, it's annoyingly snug. If you ever make this pattern, bear in mind that they don't give you a lot of room on those cuffs (and my arms aren't exactly huge!)

I just looked at the photo and I see that the sleeves look as though they have loads of room in the cuff area. The snugness arises from the sleeves rising when stretching the arms out. I think the solution is slightly longer sleeves to allow for this, perhaps. I do have quite long arms, though.

Vogue V8511 Again

P5264138

I have nearly finished my shirt in the yellow fabric, McCalls M6035 but am waiting for the buttons to arrive in the post before I can finish it off. I'll write more about it when I post the photo of the finished article.

In the meantime, here is another version of Vogue V8511, which I actually made last year in June. I had already posted about my Kaffe Fasset version in the purple, orange and green cotton, but this one is in Liberty Tana Lawn, Strawberry Thief, and it's lined in bright purple. I love this dress in this fabric. The Tana Lawn is so airy and light, and it feels as though it rustles slightly when I move. The dress is a pleasure to wear and has been much more useful than I had imagined it could be.

I won't post any extra sewing details as it was so long ago it's all gone out of my head. Just thought I'd post pics whilst I'm waiting to finish off my yellow shirt.
